How much tea leaf should I use per cup?

Some sources say 1 teaspoon, others say 5g — what actually works?

Western style: 1g of leaf per 50ml of water (about 1 teaspoon per 250ml cup). Gongfu style: 1g per 15–20ml — much stronger, designed for short repeated steeps. Volume-based measurements are unreliable because leaf density varies hugely (rolled oolongs are dense, fluffy white teas are not). A digital kitchen scale is the single best upgrade you can make to your tea practice.
