八年陈韵 Ba Nian Chen Yun

Ba Nian Chen Yun means 'Eight-Year Aged Rhyme' — produced under the Gu Gang (古岗) brand by Tengjian Tea Industry using Menghai material harvested in 2009 and pressed in 2014, after five years of pre-press conditioning in dry storage. The name reflects an aging philosophy built into the cake from the start: the producer chose material that had already spent years settling before fermentation, then pressed it with the intention of further storage. The result is a cake where the aging layers compound — pre-press conditioning plus post-press storage — producing a depth of character that straightforward new-press shu cannot match. Fifteen years on from the 2009 harvest, the tea shows what that philosophy produces. In the cup: longan, dried fig, warm cocoa, a subtle woody note and a clean, naturally sweet finish. Mouthfeel is smooth and coating — no roughness, no earthiness, no fermentation off-notes. The liquor is deep mahogany-red and clear. Each steep opens slightly differently, with the cocoa and sweetness building through the middle steeps and the camphor note emerging later.
