How many times can you re-steep tea leaves?
Is it normal to get more than a couple of infusions from the same leaves?
With Chinese tea brewed gongfu style, 6-10 infusions is completely normal, and quality oolongs or aged pu-erh can go 15+ times. The secret is using a lot of leaf (5-7g per 100ml) and short steeps. Western-style brewing with 3g per 250ml for 3 minutes burns through all the flavor in one or two steeps.
