I'm worried my tea is losing flavor sitting on the shelf.

Airtight container, away from light, heat and strong smells — that covers most teas. Greens and whites are the most fragile and should be drunk within 6-12 months. Oolongs keep well for 2-3 years. Pu-erh is the opposite: store it in a ventilated space with ~60-70% humidity and it keeps improving for decades.
