乌金号 Wu Jin Hao

Wu Jin Hao means 'Black Gold' — named for the glossy, oil-rich surface of the pressed cake, dark and dense before you even brew it. Made by Menghai Gaoshan Tea Co. from highland-grown Menghai material under the motto 匠心製茶 ('craftsmanship-first tea making') and pressed in 2016. Menghai Gaoshan (High Mountain) sources from higher-altitude plots in the Menghai region where cooler temperatures slow leaf growth and concentrate sugars and amino acids. The material was fermented and pressed by a small artisan operation focused on quality over volume — Wu Jin Hao is not a mass-production recipe but a handcrafted cake from a specific pressing year. Eight years of storage since 2016 have given this tea time to develop. The initial fermentation character has mellowed and integrated: in the cup, dark caramel, stone fruit, a faint coffee note and a silky, coating mouthfeel that lingers. The liquor is dark amber, clear and viscous. No rough edges, no earthiness.
