Is green tea actually healthier than black tea?
Green tea gets all the health press — is black tea worse for you?
Different, not better. Green tea has higher levels of EGCG (the most-studied catechin), good for oxidative stress and metabolism. Black tea has theaflavins and thearubigins (formed during oxidation), linked to gut health and cardiovascular benefits. Caffeine content is similar. The biggest health factor isn't tea type — it's drinking it without sugar and not so hot it scalds your throat (which some studies link to esophageal issues). Variety is the easy win: rotate types and you'll get the full antioxidant spread.
